Ecommerce Websites: Web Insite

When building any website there are a number of different variables that must be considered before starting, however, when developing an ecommerce site there are even more which must be examined and decided upon prior to development.

I’ll start with the most obvious. If your going to sell a product or service online you must have the ability to do so, financially speaking. What I am referring to is a merchant account.

There are several ways to obtain a merchant account but the easiest way of obtaining one is to go to your bank and to request a commercial merchant account directly from your bank.

Next you must have a shopping cart system in place which allows your customers to purchase you products directly from your website. There are a number of different shopping software programs that allow your site to sell directly from the site.

The next step would be to integrate your software into your site. When researching shopping software be sure that it has a user friendly interface, you’re going to be spending a lot of time developing and loading your products to your website shopping software so you need a platform that makes it as easy as possible for you.

I can list a number of different reasons to add a shopping cart to your existing website or if you don’t have a site I can list a number of reasons you should have a site with shopping capabilities.

1. If your store only operates during normal business hours you could be loosing potential customers who like to shop at night. By having an online store you open your business to them.

2. Online consumer spending will reach $133 billion in 3 years, up over 200% from today's $65 billion spent online. More and more, business is moving online - don't get left behind.

3. Your web site is a new customer lead generator. A simple page that allows potential clients to send you a question can generate many valuable leads or buy your products or services.

4. By having an online store you open your doors customers in other geographical locations ie…over seas, other countries, other states etc…

Lastly be sure that you’re shopping cart system and online store is as user friendly as possible. The reason for this is the easier you make it for your customers the more likely they are to return and even tell their friends and family about their experience.

Treat your online store the same way you would treat your store front location and your sure to have business that repeats.
