There are literally two different ways for you to list your business online. The first being organically or naturally, meaning you can type in a simple keyword or key phrase and it is going to return a whole slue of information in the center of the page regarding that search query. The search results will list from top to bottom by relevance and rankings.
There are a number of different variables which must be in place in order for this type of advertising to be effective. The main reason is that you are competing directly with every other website on the internet in your industry. Age of your site does not affect its placement, there is no grandfather clause. It does not work on a fist come first serve basis. It does, however, work by incorporating specific variables for search engines.

In my opinion ppc listings are effective for an initial start but should not be used long term to obtain clients. The reason is that is just too expensive to continue with ppc advertising on the internet where your ROI in my opinion does not justify the duration needed to gain clients.
